Export Development Fund Board initiated a workers' training programme by permitting the launch of Textile Garment Skill Development (TGSD) Board and allocating about Rs19.9 million for this purpose.

Project aims at developing the skills of the workers with almost 1800 being trained in the first phase.

Sources said that this project will improve the current standards of the unskilled and semi-skilled labour and increase the use of modern equipments and technology.

Textile Ministry also suggested import of skilled textile labour as well as trainers from countries like Sri Lanka.

This will help reduce the gap between the demand and availability of skilled labour and thrust the growth of textile units and exports of textile products.

Meanwhile, it is learnt that the Export Board has also evaluated the progress of the Pakistan Exhibition & Display Centre project in Sharjah.
