Members of South Africa's Clothing and Textile Worker's Union (Sactwu) have joined in a protest rally outside the French Consulate in Cape Town.
They are protesting against a call given by the European Union and the US for massive amount of reduction in tariff on clothing and textiles.
The protest is in accordance with the World Trade Organisation's negotiations in Europe.
The clothing and textile industry in South Africa has seen laying off of over 1,00,000 people during the past five years due to strong rand value and clothing imports from Asian markets.
Sactwu is of the opinion that tariff reductions will cause further job losses in domestic industry.
The union said tariff reductions will reduce domestic markets protection.
