Congressman Randy Neugebauer announced that the House Agriculture Committee will meet for its Texas Farm Bill field hearing in San Angelo on Tuesday, May 9.

Over the past few months, Neugebauer had been working with the Committee and his fellow colleagues in the West Texas congressional delegation to hold one of the hearings in the region. The exact time and location of the San Angelo hearing remain undetermined.

Neugebauer noted that it makes sense for the Committee to visit West Texas. “West Texas is the heart of Texas agriculture so I am pleased that the Lone Star state's Farm Bill field hearing will be held in a West Texas city,” Neugebauer said.

Similar field hearings have already been held in North Carolina, Alabama, California, Nebraska, and Georgia.

“As I have been attending these hearings across the country, the Committee has been receiving valuable input from producers on what the future of federal agriculture policy should look like,” Neugebauer said. “This hearing will give West Texas agriculture the opportunity to have its views heard.”

The San Angelo hearing will be the second opportunity for West Texas producers to express their views on the 2007 Farm Bill in person with the nation's top agriculture officials. In October 2005, Neugebauer hosted US Agriculture Secretary Mike Johanns at a public forum in Lubbock.
