Textile Museum members have an opportunity to join a special tour of "Workt by Hand”: Hidden Labor and Historical Quilts on January 24 at the National Museum of Women in the Arts next Friday.

Explore two centuries of American and European quilt masterpieces with Associate Curator Dr. Virginia Treanor.

Over time, quilts have been revered as emblems of the past, dismissed as women's work, and hailed as examples of American ingenuity. "Workt by Hand"—which showcases thirty-five pieces from the Brooklyn Museum's renowned decorative arts collection—breaks new ground by examining quilts through the lens of contemporary feminist theory.

This private tour will highlight the medium's shifting cultural status, examining issues of anonymity versus authorship and fine art versus craft.
