'Recent downtrend in global cotton prices a major threat'

“Though the government of Tamil Nadu has announced establishment of Cotton Cultivation Mission with an allocation of Rs.50 crores and envisaged cotton output of 25 to 30 lakh bales, it will take time and moreover the gap between the requirement and availability cannot be met. Therefore, Tamil Nadu mills need the relaxation of Cabatoge Rule to sustain their competitiveness and survival. If this relaxation is in place, it will create a win win situation for all the stakeholders”, he said

He requested the Cotton Association of India and Indian Cotton Federation to put joint efforts for the relaxation of Cabatoge Rule. He also exhorted the delegates to join together and benchmark the practices of ginning and pressing so that Indian ginners are at par with international cotton growers like USA, Australia, action which no doubt, will definitely help Indian cotton farmers.

Also present at the conference were Chief Guest of the function - Dr BK Krishnaraj Vanavarayar, Chairman of Bharathiya Vidya Bhavan, Coimbatore, Mohit Shah, President of International Cotton Association, Suresh Kotak, Chairman of Kotak Commodities, Bhadresh Mehta, MD of Bhadresh Trading Corporation, Dhiren Sheth, President at Cotton Association of India and senior officials of Indian Cotton Federation.

Mohit Shah, Suresh Kotak and Badresh Mehta were felicitated for their yeoman services to the cotton business in India.
