The Indian handloom and handicraft sector has received a boost, as the Central Cottage Industries Corporation (CCIC) will market products from these two-labour intensive sectors.

CCIC has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Textiles Ministry to develop, promote and market quality Indian handloom and handicraft products, Business Standard reported.

As per the MoU, CCIC will produce, procure and sell these handicraft and handloom products through its own stores and develop markets for these products in India and abroad.

Alongside, CCIC will also improve quality of Indian handicrafts, upgrade and produce new designs and also strengthen and expand the CCIC marketing network.

The MoU will also aim to help CCIC generate adequate returns on net worth, so as to optimise sales, earnings and expenditure.

The Ministry of Textiles may also consider infusing additional equity capital in to CCIC.

CCIC manages a flagship showroom in Delhi and stores in Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai and Bangalore, offering access to the finest Indian crafts with an assurance of authenticity, beauty and value, setting standards in aesthetics and design.
