Statistics reveal cotton yarn export value up in July 2005 – Jan 2006

Cotton yarn maintained its fourth position in its group during January, 2006 as in the previous month. Its exports in this month amounted to Rs. 7,073.96 million as against Rs. 6,890.03 million in December, 2005 and Rs. 4,818.32 million in January, 2005 showing an increase of 2.67 percent over December, 2005 by 46.81 percent over January, 2005.

During July - January (2005 – 06) exports of cotton yarn amounted to Rs. 45,171.81 million as against Rs. 32,998.95 million in the corresponding period of last year showing a rise of 36.89 percent. In terms of quantity 374,231 thousand Kg. of cotton yarn was exported during July - January (2005 – 06) of current financial year as against 266,364 thousand Kg. during the corresponding period of last year showing an increase of 40.50 percent.

The average unit price of
cotton yarn for the period July - January (2005 – 06) of current financial year was Rs. 120.71 per Kg. as against Rs. 123.89 per Kg. in the same period of last year showing a decrease of 2.57 percent.

Hong Kong (Rs. 13,930.58 million), China (Rs. 8,460.91 million), U.S.A. (Rs. 4,108.04 million), Korea Rep. of (Rs. 3,710.53 million), Bangladesh (Rs. 2,544.19 million), Japan (Rs. 2,030.78 million), Portugal (Rs. 1,488.96 million), Turkey (Rs. 1,443.51 million) and Italy (Rs. 1,165.58 million) were major buyers of cotton yarn during this period. Their combined share accounted for 86.07 percent of total exports of cotton yarn as compared to their combined share of 85.61 percent during the same period of last year.
