MIDC along Maharashtra Energy Development Agency (MEDA) is also planning to set up biomass-based power plants of seven to 25 MW capacities. Waste from tur and cotton farms would be used as fuel stock. The plants would be set up in industrial estates of Chandrapur, Chimoor, Gadchiroli, Gondia, Bhandara, Lonand and Newase, sources said.
In Chandrapur 7.5 MW power would be generated from biomass for which the investment would be Rs 30 crore. In Chimoor, near Chandrapur 6 MW power plant will come up with an investment of Rs 40 crore. In Gondia, 10 MW power plants would be set up with an investment of Rs 35 crore. Similarly in Bhandara 10 MW plant would be set up with an investment of Rs 35 crore.
