Knitwear export to Germany, the country's major knitwear export destination, continued to maintain a robust growth without any restriction against the competitive country like China during the post MFA period.

The country's knitwear export to Germany grew 51 per cent to $805.33 million during the July-April of the current fiscal compared to the same period of previous fiscal, Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) sources told the news agency Wednesday.

Bangladesh Knitwear Manufactures and Exports Association (BKMEA) president Fazlul Haque told BDNEWS, 'World Cup Football being held in Germany has created the opportunity to boost up the Knitwear export with this types of higher growth.'

He said, 'We will organise the first three-days long single country Knitwear fair in Germany to maintain this higher growth for next fiscal that was achieved in the current fiscal.'

The single country Knitwear fair in Germany would be held at Hilton Dussdeldorf hotel on September 5 to 7 with the financial support of Germany's developing agencies, GTZ, BKMEA sources said.

Knitwear exports overtake woven exports as major export earner in April this year for the first time in the country's history.

Knitwear products export registered 32.86 percent rise to $3007 million during the July-April period of the current fiscal, EPB statistics said.
