Trade and Industry Department (TID) announced Commercial Information Circular No. 79/2006 of 2 March 2006, the Council of the EU has adopted a regulation amending the list of products of which import tariffs will be partially or totally suspended.
Temporary tariff suspension applies to products which the Community does not have sufficient supply to meet the needs of its industries. Products for which tariff duties are temporarily suspended can be imported into the Community at reduced or zero rate automatically, regardless of origin and quantity.
The Council's latest amendment, which took effect from 1 July 2006 to 31 December 2008, has extended tariff suspension to a number of new products, covering mainly chemical products, plastic products, and electrical equipment.
At the same time, certain previously listed products have been removed from the list of products the tariffs of which are partially or totally suspended.
