Carpets, carpeting, rugs and mats came down to fifth position in its group during January, 2006 from its third position in the previous month. Its exports in January, 2006 amounted to Rs. 924.67 million as against Rs. 1584.45 million in December, 2005 and Rs. 1626.05 million in January, 2005 showing an decrease of 41.64 percent over December, 2005 and percent over January, 2005.
Exports of this item for July - January (2005 – 06) of current financial year amounted to Rs. 9,143.55 million as against Rs. 9,239.34 million during the corresponding period of last year showing a decrease of 1.04 percent.
In terms of quantity 2,437,610 sq. meters of carpets, carpeting, rugs & mats were exported during July - January (2005 – 06) of current financial year as against 2,555,596 sq. meters exported during the corresponding period of last year showing a decrease of 11.84 percent.
The average unit price of carpets of wool hand knotted was Rs. 4,266.03 per sq. meter during July - January (2005 – 06) as against Rs. 3,949.80 per sq. meter in the corresponding period of last year showing a rise of 8.00 percent. U.S.A. (Rs. 4,059.93 million), Germany (Rs. 909.84 million), Italy (Rs. 792.97 million), France (Rs. 452.65 million), Spain (Rs. 345.06 million), United Kingdom (Rs. 328.64 million), Greece (Rs. 235.75 million) and South Africa (Rs. 173.75 million) were the main buyers of carpets, carpeting, rugs & mats during July - January (2005 – 06). They together accounted for 82.19 during July - January (2005 – 06) as compared to their combined share of 82.79 percent during the same period of last year
