“Today's announcement is significant because it means we anticipate no further major hurdles in the process to award full Type Certification to the Eclipse 500. Close teamwork between the FAA and Eclipse has been a hallmark of this certification program, and that will continue as the company works toward full certification,” said FAA Administrator Marion C. Blakey.

Acting Secretary Cino added that companies like Eclipse are contributing to the nation's rapidly expanding economy. She noted that Eclipse Aviation has hired 560 new employees in the last 12 months alone and now employs over 820 people at its headquarters in New Mexico

“Congratulations to Albuquerque-based Eclipse Aviation on this important step,” said U.S. Congresswoman Heather Wilson, who represents Albuquerque. “Our economy is taking off, and this is the kind of product development that helps fuel continued growth.”

The Department of Transportation was established by an act of Congress on October 15, 1966, the Department's first official day of operation was April 1, 1967.
