To remove bottlenecks in the industry and maximize growth potential a new forum called the Karur Textiles Promotional Council has been formed.
The idea to form the council was evolved at a meeting with the industry captains called by the Collector B Chandramohan who has been nominated as Chairman and representatives of various sectors of the textile trade as members.
The necessity for greater coordination between the administration and the industry relating to various issues confronting the industry resulted in its configuration.
Forum will be dealing with problems like shortage of skilled labor, establishment of an institute for textile technology, retaining a consultancy firm to analyze the strength, weakness, opportunity and threat factors to the industry, giving a thrust to the formation of a textile park and getting special export zone status for the proposed park.
To tackle the shortage of skilled labor, a pilot project would be launched under which the District Rural Development Agency Project Officer would coordinate the efforts, identifying clusters of villages within a radius of 50 km from Karur and listing persons who wish to get trained in stitching and finally to be absorbed by the export units.
