American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists' (AATCC) 2006 International Conference & Exhibition (IC&E) will be held October 31-November 2 at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta. The program will feature three educational tracks mirroring the Association's three interest groups: Chemical Applications, Concept 2 Consumer (C2C) and Materials.
Presentations in the Chemical Applications track will discuss pre-treatment and preparation; printing and finishing; advances in dyeing; and environmental issues. The C2C track will address quality control and textile care; CAD/CAM technology; product development; color and trends; and fit/sizing.
The Materials track will focus on nanotechnologies in textiles; protective textiles; medical/biomedical textiles; and novel fibers and chemical materials. Poster presentations will be an integral part of this conference and topic presenters will be available to discuss their research.
This year marks the 150th anniversary of William Henry Perkin's discovery of the first practical synthetic dye, mauveine. AATCC will celebrate the sesquicentennial anniversary of this discovery during its conference. Anthony S Travis, Sidney M Edelstein Center for the History and Philosophy of Science, Technology and Medicine at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, will present, “Mauve 1856: The Background, and where it Led.”
This conference will be a co-located event with MEGATEX, which is co-anchored by the American Textile Machinery Exhibition International 2006 (ATME-IÒ 2006) and the Industrial Fabrics Association International Expo 2006 (IFAI Expo 2006). Dr Travis's presentation is open to all MEGATEX attendees.
