The 65th Plenary Meeting of the International Cotton Advisory Committee (ICAC) since 1939 will be held during 11-15 September 2006 in the dynamic city of Goiânia, capital of the state of Goiás in central Brazil.

Committee and Task Force Meetings will be held on 10 September.

The Governor of Goiás, The Honorable Marconi Perillo, is taking a special interest in the meeting and will ensure that the extraordinary hospitality of the Brazilian people is extended to plenary meeting participants.

Goiás is the third largest producer of cotton in Brazil and exports approximately 30 percent of production. Goiás is also a center of cotton textile production in Brazil.

The theme of the 65th Plenary Meeting of International Cotton Advisory Committee (ICAC) will be “The Social and Environmental Impacts of Cotton Production and Use”. The 65th Plenary Meeting will provide opportunities for information exchange and consensus building around best industry practices.

The meeting will showcase the beneficial impacts of cotton production and use in the achievement of social objectives, and the meeting will showcase the extraordinary growth of Brazilian cotton production and improvements in quality.

The Organizing Committee for Goiânia 2006 is composed of representatives of the Brazilian Cotton Growers Association, the Cotton Institutions from the State of Goiás, representatives of research organizations and representatives of exporters, the textile industry, the Government of Goiás an the Government of Brazil.
