Future & option volume rise 25%

The New York Board of Trade (NYBOT), the world's leading “soft” commodity exchange, tallied up sizeable volume gains during August, with 3,807,485 total contracts trading during the month, 20 percent higher than August 2005. The year-to-date [YTD]) volume was 30,557,249 futures and options contracts, a 25 percent increase over the same period from 2005.

Additionally, a Coffee “C” futures monthly volume record was set during August with 481,870 contracts traded, replacing the previous record of 476,542 contracts from June 2006.

“We're very happy with both our August and year-to-date volumes,” said Joe O'Neill, NYBOT SVP of Marketing. “The NYBOT markets continue to show incredible liquidity, and offer market users helpful tools to manage their risk exposure or diversify their investment goals.”

Some YTD category increases are: Total Ag Futures (up 19 percent), Currency Futures (up 22 percent), and Total Futures (up 18 percent); options increases are: Ag Options (up 49 percent), Currency Options (up 9 percent), and Total Options (up 47 percent).
