USDA crop production report states that the quantity of cotton crop this year in US has gone up by 2 percent from September to 20.7 million bales; this is due to excellent yields in most cotton growing states.
As per the report, cotton production is still 14 percent less than last year's high produce. Average yield is expected to be 774 pounds per acre, which is 12 pounds more than that in September but 57 pounds less than that in 2005.
It is expected that total 12.8 million acres of land will be harvested this month, which is same as that in September but seven percent less than that in 2005.
Cotton producers other than Kansas, Missouri and New Mexico saw rise or stability in average yields compared to last month. Considerable yield rises as against September were noted as 115 pounds for Florida, 78 pounds for Louisiana and 84 pounds for Virginia.
