Cotton Council International's (CCI) first China Cotton School educated cotton buyers on trade and the U.S. cotton industry.
The school consisted of a three-city seminar series in Jinan, Hangzhou and Guangzhou, which was executed by CCI with the support of the American Cotton Shippers Association and AMCOT.
Local cotton experts presented the seminars, which covered basic industry information. Many of the school's attendees, who represented 145 cotton importing and exporting companies, are entering the international cotton market for the first time.
Virtually all respondents said they plan to import more U.S. cotton because of attending the seminars, and buyers cited a deeper understanding of the partnership role of the U.S. cotton co-op and merchant exporters.
China currently ranks as U.S. cotton's largest export market, with imports of 5.7 million bales valued at $1.4 billion in calendar year 2005.
