Exports remain high at RM52.63bn in Sept

Exports in September 2006: Exports to the USA amounted to RM9.87 billion, compared with the record high value of RM10.67 billion in August 2006. There were lower exports of E&E products, palm oil, chemicals and chemical products, and iron and steel products.

Exports to the EU increased by 6.9 percent from August 2006 to RM7.32 billion, accounting for 13.9 percent of Malaysia's total exports. Exports to major markets which registered increases were Netherlands, United Kingdom, France and Finland.

Exports to West Asia amounted to RM1.69 billion, an increase of 17.4 percent from August 2006. The increase was attributed mainly to higher exports of jewellery, iron and steel products and E&E products. The markets which recorded significant increases were UAE, Yemen and Iran.

Imports in September 2006: Total imports in September 2006 amounted to RM42.84 billion, an increase of 6.9 percent from RM40.06 billion a year ago. Compared to the record value of RM43.35 billion in August 2006, it was lower by 1.2 percent.

Major export products during the period January - September 2006:
Chemicals and chemical products (RM20.95 billion or 4.8 percent of total exports), Optical and scientific equipment (RM10.21 billion or 2.3 percent of total exports); and Textiles and clothing (RM8.01 billion or 1.8 percent of total exports).
