Consumer Price Index for Rural Labourers released

The All-India Consumer Price Index for Rural Labourers (Base 1986-87 = 100) increased by six points each during October 2006 to stand at 386 points for Agricultural Labourers and 387 points for Rural Labourers.

The rise and fall in index varied from state to state. In case of Agricultural Labourers 18 states reflected an increase in indices ranging between 1 to 13points, in one state the indices went down by two points while in one state the indices remained constant.

In case of Rural Labourers, 19 states reflected an increase ranging between 1 to 12 points while in one state the indices fell by one point.

Punjab with 413 points for Agricultural Labourers and with 416 points for Rural Labourers figured at the top of the index table. Manipur with 333 points and 334 points each for Agricultural Labourers and Rural Labourers respectively remained at the bottom of the index.

Point to point rate of inflation based on CPI-AL increased from 7.34 percent during September 2006 to 8.43 percent during October 2006 and in respect of CPI-RL it increased from 7.02 percent to 8.10 percent during the same period.

Respective rates of inflation during October 2005 were 3.19 percent and 3.17 percent. The All-India Consumer Price Index (General & Group-wise) has been as follows:

Group includes Clothing, Bedding & Footwear for general-wise categories of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for the month September 2006 is 378 and for the month October 2006 it raises to 379. And for group-wise categories for the month September 2006 is 389 and for the month October 2006 it raises to 390.
