Comparing October 2006 with October 2005, increases were registered in the values of re-exports to many major destinations, in particular the United Kingdom (+16.4 percent), the mainland of China (the Mainland) (+16.4 percent), France (+10.8 percent) and the United States of America (+10.1 percent).
For the first ten months of 2006 as a whole, year-on-year increases were registered in the values of re-exports to most major destinations, in particular the Mainland (+14.2 percent), Korea (+9.9 percent), Taiwan (+4.2 percent) and Singapore (+2.9 percent). However, a year-on-year decrease was registered in the value of re-exports to the Netherlands (-18.4 percent).
Concurrently, significant year-on-year increases were registered in the values of domestic exports to many major destinations, in particular the Netherlands (+112.8 percent), Germany (+45.6 percent), Australia (+38.3 percent), the United Kingdom (+32.2 percent) and Japan (+23.1 percent).
Over the same periods of comparison, year-on-year increases were registered in the values of imports from all major suppliers, in particular Singapore (+22.1 percent), Taiwan (+18.0 percent), Thailand (+15.5 percent), Korea (+13.9 percent) and the Mainland (+12.6 percent).
Analysis by major commodity
Concurrently, significant decreases were registered in the values of domestic exports of many principal commodity divisions, in particular "clothing" (by $3.7 billion or -48.5 percent) and "electrical machinery, apparatus and appliances, and electrical parts thereof" (by $1.1 billion or -50.8 percent).
However, an increase was registered in the value of domestic exports of "office machines and automatic data processing machines" (by $442 million or 32.4 percent).
