In the Chinese writing system, there are over 300 characters which contain the silk radical, many of which originally described different stages in the making of silk textiles.
These characters are further applied in the language to convey extended meanings. Through an examination of the characters, it is possible to explore the influence of silk and the silk industry on Chinese writing, expression and culture.
Cloth Haven is a small gallery, not far from the Man Mo Temple and Cat Street, in the heart of the Hollywood Road/Western district. We will be offered an exclusive introduction to the exhibition, led by Edith Cheung, a well-known Hong Kong designer. Those who would like to join us for organic vegetarian dim sum afterwards will be most welcome to do so, on a shared-cost basis.
