The U.S. Chamber of Commerce announced its support for the "U.S.-China Market Engagement and Export Promotion Act" introduced earlier by Representatives Rick Larsen (D-WA) and Mark Kirk (R-IL). The bill would create programs to help states establish export promotion offices in China and bolster export assistance centers around the United States.
"The Chamber believes that by maintaining and expanding a commercial relationship with China, American businesses will find significant benefits and opportunities. This bill provides businesses with vital resources necessary to succeed in the Chinese market," said Myron Brilliant, Chamber vice president for Asia.
"The U.S. Chamber applauds Congressmen Larsen and Kirk, along with the other members of the U.S.-China Working Group, for working to expand export opportunities to China for small and medium-sized businesses."
Through its China Business Initiative, the U.S. Chamber has organized a series of unique forums throughout the country over the past two years specifically focused on assisting small and medium-sized businesses interested in pursuing opportunities in China.
Conducted in partnership with local chambers of commerce, these forums have featured senior Chinese Embassy officials, executives from the American Chambers in China, and other China business experts.
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is the world's largest business federation, representing more than 3 million businesses and organizations of every size, sector, and region.
