Gujarat has a lion's share of 55% of India's Chemical industry. Potentially Gujarat's stake in the EU exports could be as high as Rs.2000 Crores.

REACH will have impact on Indian chemical industry and will affect exports of inks, adhesives, paints, articles, soaps, detergents, emulsifiers, alloys and several industries allied to the chemical industry, said Mr. Ravi Kapoor, Chairman, ICC - Gujarat.

This law does apply to chemical manufacturers within EU. The effect of legislation shall be far reaching for Indian manufacturers as nearly all chemicals & substances exported out of India to EU will need to be registered. Numbers of consultants / institutions are engaged in finding out a convenient strategy.

The union Government along with ICC & other agencies is taking pro-active steps about the awareness & impact of legislation stated Mr. K.C Misra.

The panel of speakers on the 'topics' of REACH were Mr. Reynold D'Souza, Dr. K.S Rao, Dr.S.Hariharan, Dr.Rashmi Naidu, Dr.S.S.Murugan & Dr. J.M.Nair, who deliberated the issue in detail. The seminar was attended by nearly 100 delegates from Chemical fraternity.

The program was organized to create awareness amongst the exporters / manufacturers about REACH and inform them about the needs towards compliance to REACH legislation.
