NTC hopes to modernize 22 mills by Mar 2008

National Textile Corporation (NTC) is the single largest Textile Central Public Sector Enterprise under Ministry of Textile managing 119 mill units spread all over India. The Headquarters of the Company is at New Delhi.

The strength of the group is 17,298 employees. The annual turnover of the Company in the year 2006-07 was aprox. Rs. 607 Crores having capacity of 10 lakhs Spindles, 908 Looms producing 434 Lakh Kgs of yarn and 154 lakhs Mtrs. of cloth annually.

NTC was incorporated in 1968 with the main objectives of managing the affairs of 16 sick textile mills taken over by the Government. NTC took over more sick textile mills under 3
Nationalization / I (D&R) Acts, (1974, 1986 & 1995), raising its number up to 125 mills in 1995.

In 2002, NTC was managing 119 mills. According to the revival scheme of February & July , 2002 BIFR/GOI approved revival of 53 mills and closure of 66 unviable mils. 67 unviable mills have so far been closed under the I.D.

Act after offering attractive VRS to the employees. 2 Mills have been transferred to State Government of Pondichery. Now, NTC has 50 Mills and 107 Showrooms as on 01.07.2007.

As per Modified Revival Scheme approved in the year 2006 by BIFR/GOI, 22 Mills are under revival by NTC itself 18 mills are proposed to be modernized through Joint Venture Route and balance 10 mills,where most of the employees have opted for V.R.S, are proposed to be closed.
