The world's top textile scientists will be honored during AATCC's 2007 International Conference & Exhibition (IC&E) October 2-4 at the Francis Marion Hotel in Charleston, S.C, U.S.A. The awards will be presented at the Association's conference Awards Luncheon on Thursday, October 2nd.

The program will feature the presentation of the Olney Medal for outstanding achievement in textile chemistry, the Harold C. Chapin Award for service to AATCC, the Henry E. Millson Award for Invention, and the J. William Weaver Paper of the Year Award.

In recognition for his outstanding service to the Association, AATCC has named John A. Darsey Jr. this year's recipient of THE HAROLD C. CHAPIN AWARD. Darsey, a native of Atlanta, Ga, U.S.A, is vice-president of sales for Color Solutions International in Charlotte, N.C, U.S.A.

A member of the AATCC since 1979, John A. Darsey, Jr. has served with great distinction in both the technical and administrative functions of the Association. Darsey served as president of the Association from 1997 to 1998.

He provided the vision and leadership for launching the Concept 2 Consumer (C2C) activities of the Association. Darsey served as the second chair of the C2C Committee and the first chair of the C2C interest group. Darsey has also served as chair of the AATCC Foundation and is on the Foundation's board of directors.

The Chapin Award was established in 1958 in honor of Harold C. Chapin, professor of chemistry at Lowell Textile School, who served as national secretary of AATCC for nearly 25 years.

The award is presented each year to a senior member with at least 20 years continuous membership in AATCC who has contributed outstanding service in enabling the Association to attain the objects for which it was founded.
