Top textile scientists to be honored in Charleston

Williams is currently chief technical officer at HaloSource Inc in Bothell, Wash, U.S.A. An AATCC member since 1999, Williams was a Fulbright Scholar, and was named a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. He has written more than 200 scientific articles and book chapters.

Lei Qian holds a PhD from the University of California–Davis. Qian is currently a research scientist at the North Carolina State University College of Textiles in Raleigh, N.C, U.S.A. She joined AATCC as a student in 1999, and is also a member of the Fiber Society and the American Chemical Society. She has published 23 papers.

Joseph Chen holds a bachelor's degree from Chinese Culture University and a PhD from Auburn University. He is currently director of halogen chemistry for HaloSource Inc in Bothell, Wash, U.S.A. Chen joined AATCC in 1986, and is also a member of the American Chemical Society. He holds 10 U.S. patents and has published more than 25 articles and presentations.

In February 1979, the AATCC established an annual award for the best peer-reviewed paper published in the Textile Chemist and Colorist (now AATCC Review). In 1990, the award was named for J. William Weaver (1916-1990), who was chair of the Textile Chemist and Colorist editorial board at the time of his death.
