Shipments of manufactured durable goods up in July

New Orders: New orders for manufactured durable goods in July increased $12.9 billion or 5.9 percent to $230.7 billion, the U.S. Census Bureau announced. This was the fifth increase in the last six months and at the highest level since the series was first stated on a NAICS basis in 1992. This increase followed a 1.9 percent June increase. Excluding transportation, new orders increased 3.7 percent. Excluding defense, new orders increased 4.9 percent.
Transportation equipment, up two consecutive months, had the largest increase, $7.4 billion or 10.8 percent to $75.4 billion. This was led by nondefense aircraft and parts, which increased $2.4 billion.
Shipments: Shipments of manufactured durable goods in July, up four of the last five months, increased $8.1 billion or 3.8 percent to $219.8 billion. This was also at the highest level since the series was first stated on a NAICS basis in 1992 and followed a 1.1 percent June decrease. Transportation equipment, up two of the last three months, had the largest increase, $5.2 billion or 9.1 percent to $62.4 billion.
Unfilled Orders: Unfilled orders for manufactured durable goods in July, up twenty-six of the last twenty-seven months, increased $17.6 billion or 2.4 percent to $754.9 billion. This was also at the highest level since the series was first stated on a NAICS basis in 1992 and followed a 1.6 percent June increase.
Transportation equipment, up eighteen consecutive months, had the largest increase, $13.0 billion or 3.1 percent to $434.0 billion.
