Bulgarian trade minister calls on Kamal Nath

Shri Kamal Nath, Union Minister of Commerce & Industry, has called for maximization of bilateral trade potential between India and Bulgaria.

Observing that the Indo-Bulgarian bilateral trade, which at present stands at US $ 79 million (exports - $ 40 million and imports - $ 39 million), Shri Kamal Nath stated that this needs to grow significantly, considering the vast potential that exists for increasing the trade. This was stated by the Indian Commerce and Industry Minister when Mr. Petar Dimitrov, Bulgarian Minister for Economy and Energy called on him.

While congratulating Bulgaria on its accession to the European Union (EU), Shri Kamal Nath said: “we look forward to your cooperation and support in strengthening the India-EU strategic partnership in all its manifestations. We have begun negotiations on a broad based trade and investment agreement”. The Bulgarian geographical location and membership of the EU offer new opportunities for Indian companies to sell to and invest in Bulgaria, Shri Kamal Nath added.

Major items of exports to Bulgaria include machinery & instruments, drugs, pharmaceuticals & fine chemicals, manufactures of metals, non-ferrous metals etc. and major items of imports from Bulgaria are – inorganic chemicals, wheat, iron & steel, machinery except electric & electronic.
