Alternative Investment Market to become main source for growth

Indian growth story and booming economy has opened new avenues for companies to raise funds and at the same time pose new challenges.

'Alternative Investment Market could become main source for growth for small companies said Mr. Jayant Davar, Member, CII Cluster Committee and Vice Chairman & Managing Director, Sandhar Technologies Ltd at a seminar organized jointly by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Amarchand Mangaldas on 'The Alternative Investment Market: Opportunities for Indian Companies' here on Tuesday.

Indian related companies / investment funds raised $ 2.7 billion on AIM, London Stock Exchange in 2006 said Mr. Ibukun Adebayo, Relationship Manager- India, London Stock Exchange.

He further added that eligibility criterion for listing at AIM for the companies suit young and growing companies. Mr. Adebayo added that various Indian companies like Noida Toll Bridge, UTV Motion Pictures, Eros International, Unitech have already raised funds through AIM, LSE.

Mr. Adam Hart, MD, Equities – Corporate Finance, Fairfax I.S. Plc London emphasized on the importance of the role of Nomad and brokers for the successful listing at AIM.

He asserted the role of Nomad is very important in view of the fact that they are the one who assess the suitability of company for listing at AIM and broker who actually raise funds for the companies.

Dr. Sarita Nagpal, Deputy Director General, CII said that the Indian companies would make use of this route of fundraising, especially the small companies and continue to move on the growth path.
