After three successful world cotton research conferences in Australia (1994), Greece (1998) and South Africa (2003), the World Cotton Research Conference-4 (WCRC-4) was held in Lubbock, Texas, USA from September 10-14, 2007.
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, CIRAD of France, Cotton Incorporated, USA, National Cotton Council of America and Plains Cotton Growers, USA in addition to ICAC sponsored the conference. The International Textile Center of the Texas Tech University, USA served as the primary host of the Conference.
The World Cotton Research Conference-4 was highly productive. 590 researchers from 37 countries attended, including more than half from outside the USA. The theme of the WCRC-4 was ëNatureís High-Tech Fiber.
There were 21 plenary speakers, 201 speakers during breakout sessions and 118 poster displays during the 4-day period. Attendance was high at all sessions, and prior review of prospective papers assured high presentation quality.
Two field visits were also a part of the Conference. Participants visited a Texas Tech University experiment station, a USDA Agriculture Research Service facility, a gin and a dairy farm.
Proceedings will be placed in the public section of the ICAC web page. The World Cotton Research Conference-5 will be held in New Delhi, India in September or October 2011.
