US based Association of the Non-woven Fabrics Industry (INDA) has organized 'The Link With India' conference of non-woven textiles, which is currently being attended by the key government stakeholders and industry players.
The conference got a boost with Union Textiles Minister Shankersinh Vaghela, Minister of State for Textiles Mr EVKS Elangovan, Mr Rory Holmes, President INDA, USA, Dr Ram Seshadri, Co-Chairman INDA (India Committee), Mr Mark Snider, Conference Chairperson and Mr M Mallayah, INDA (India Committee Representative).
During the Conference, Mr Vaghela assured full support alongwith his deputy in the Ministry, Mr Elangovan while proclaiming Technical Textiles and Nonwovens sectors as having a very promissing a bright future in India.
Government, they said was all set to launch Technology Mission on Technical Textiles during the 11th Five Year Plan.
Meanwhile, spirit behind this initiative, Dr Ramkumar Seshadri, praised the Government's efforts and said, “A sum of Rs96 crores had been requested to create awareness and establish 6 centres of excellence for this sector which is under active consideration.”
He further explained that, “China is way ahead of India when it came to technical textiles. While India produced only 55000 tons of non-wovens per year, former's output reached around 7.5 lakh metric tons.”
Dr Ramkumar stressed, “India has per capita consumption is less than 0.1kg of technical textiles whilethose in China and even countries like Brazil, Argentina and Turkey far outstripped it. Growing middle class with disposable income will definitely consume more of wipes, diapers, medical textiles, napkins and other products as consumer awareness grows in the country. It is vital that India's textile and manufacturing sectors embrace the high productive and high margin of nonwoven industry so as to achieve that set target of US $115 billion by 2012.”
Dr Ramkumar conducted a session on Technical Textiles and Nonwovens explaining the finer points through a wonderful Powerpoint presentation to rapt audiences. Today is the concluding day of this informative three-day Conference, which endeavored to link INDA and India and promote this exciting industry in India in the most appropriate manner in the years to come.
