India and Germany are 'Partners by Choice', said the German Ambassador to India, H.E. Bernd Mutzelburg. He noted that the two countries are strategic partners and therefore need to look beyond economic relations.
Welcoming more Indian investments in Germany from India, he hoped that both India and Germany would work towards successful conclusion of the WTO negotiations.
This cooperation would be strengthened through a broad-based bilateral trade agreement between India and the European Union (EU), covering goods, services and investments.
The visit of the German Chancellor, Ms Angela Merkel is a vote of confidence to the Indo-German partnership, said the ambassador.
Addressing the CII Roundtable on “India and Germany: Strengthening the Partnership”. Vision for Indo-German Trade and Economic Relations 2015, Ambassador Mutzelburg said India's strong and consistent economic growth means more business opportunities for German investors in sectors like infrastructure, science & technology, energy, R&D and InfoTech.
He said Germany could provide a platform to further improve trade with the EU members, especially the central and east European member nations.
He disclosed that an Indo-German vision statement would be worked out during the visit of Chancellor Angela Merkel to India next week.
He added that both the countries should work towards providing a level-playing field for investors. In this context, he admitted that Germany need to work towards a flexible visa regime and make the country more attractive to Indian students and researchers.
