Indian exporters were exploring joint ventures (JVs) with African companies which would convert raw hides and skins into semi-finished leather for shipment to India. Eastern and Southern Africa Leather Industries Association (ESALIA) has also agreed to provide cooperation and support to the Delegation.

India's total export value of leather and leather goods stood at US $1487.13 million in the current year, showing a plunge of 19.89 per cent from last year's $1856.51 million. In quantity terms, exports fell 19.41 per cent.
