In a press conference held on November 21, Sheikh Ijaz Ahmad, Chairman of Pakistan Open End Spinners Association (POESA) stated that the open-end spinning sector has nearly 20 percent share in the country's textile exports.
Mr Sheikh Ijaz Ahmad insisted on banning export of cotton waste and agreed to give his full support to the Government for taking effective measures for reducing the cost of production in the textile sector.
Mr Sheikh further asserted saying that this sector has, over a period of time, been playing a crucial role in the development of Pakistan's economy through value addition after processing cotton waste.
According to the Chairman, the spinning sector was being neglected due to inept and inefficient policies of the Government. Although, Mustaq Cheema, former textile minister, promised to deliver special relief package to the textile sector, the cabinet has not taken any efforts to enforce it. He said, "This sector uses waste to produce thread, which is an important element of most of our exportable goods but this waste is already in shortage in the country."
Mr Sheikh also stated that if the Government fails to fulfill their requirements, they will have no other alternative but to forge a shutter down strike.
