Mr. Fernandes also warned that cases have come to the notice of the government that in various parts of the country, the workers gratuity, bonus and other benefits are being siphoned off by employers to honor their obligations of financial institutions, banks etc.
The government has taken serious view of this and shortly initiate action against those who instead of paying to their workers quietly, channelised funds to meet their legal and financial obligations.
Speaking on the occasion, INTUC President and Member of Parliament, Dr. G. Sanjeeva Reddy opposed any move from the government for initiation of reforms without labour consultation. He said that employers and not the government are responsible for violating labour laws and it should be the effort of the government to ensure that labour laws are implemented and enforced in the corporate sector.
Mr. Tapan Sen, Secretary, CITU, Mr. Uday Patwardhan, General Secretary, Bhartiya Mazdoor Sangh, Mr. H Mahadevan, Dy. General Secretary, AITUC, Dr. Pravin Sinha, Sr. Advisor, Friedrich Ebert Stiftung, Mr. Venugopal N. Dhoot, ASSOCHAM President and Mr. D S Rawat, Secretary General ASSOCHAM also spoke on the occasion and advocated the need for labour reforms with human face. The MPs particularly were of the view that corporate sector violates labour laws as there are laws that encourage them to take recourse to this root which should be abandoned.
