Graduate Student Paper Competition Winner:
Ms. Min Xiao, a doctoral candidate in Fiber Science at Cornell University, received the Graduate Student Paper Competition Award. The student paper competition is open to graduate students doing research in the areas of fundamental and applied research in science, technology, and the engineering of fibers. Students are mentored by university faculty who are Fiber Society members. The competition is held annually in conjunction with the society's fall conference.

Papers are judged primarily on three criteria: scientific rigor (experimental design and execution) of the research; clarity and accuracy of data interpretation (analysis and discussion of results); and, adherence to standard written style, including figures and tables.

All submissions are reviewed by the awards committee, with three finalists selected to present at the conference. Ms. Xiao's presentation of her paper entitled Interactions in Cellulose Solutions in Ethylene Diamine/Salt Systems was chosen to receive the award.

Ms. Xiao received her B.S. and M.S. degrees in Textile Chemistry and Dyeing and Finishing from Donghua University, Shanghai, China. She has received numerous scholarship awards and participated in several research and applications projects. She is currently engaged as a Teaching Assistant at Cornell University, where Dr. Margaret Frey serves as her advisor.
