Oeko-Tex Association is an organization comprising more than 14 independent textile, research and testing institute with branches in over 40 countries across the globe.
The association is presenting an event titled “Textile Ecology and Oeko-Tex: Major Cornerstones for Sustainability of Our Industry” from December 12-13, 2007.
The event will be presented at the American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists (AATCC) convention named 'Fashion Garment Washing: Trends, Fabrics, Technologies and Sustainability'.
The presentation of Oeko-Tex will largely include environmental issues and will inform the guests about its Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certification process that plays a crucial role in the environmental sustainability of textile, apparel and retail industries.
The main reason behind this organized seminar was to create awareness among the masses about how to make textile more environmentally friendly.
Furthermore, authentic sources confirmed Fibre2fashion that Oeko-Tek institute has also decided to harmonize the Oeko-Tex Standard 100 and Restricted Substances List (RSL).
Consequently, Oeko-Tex will include a few more substances in its testing scheme from the beginning of 2008. As a result any customer certified according to the Oeko-Tex Standard 100 can be sure to meet automatically, the requirements of the RSL. This is important not only for American companies, but also for foreign companies exporting to the USA. With an Oeko-Tex Certificate issued from 2008 on it can proof the conformity of the products.
Besides, a number of important European car manufacturers required the certification according to Oeko-Tex Standard 100 for their textile car interiors. In these days it is learnt that the first big American car manufacturers intend to follow this decision. This is important information for their suppliers all around the world.
