Speaking at the seminar, Mr Homi Khusrokhan, Managing Director, Tata Chemicals, said “India needs to invest more in fertilizers. Tata Chemicals is taking nascent but firm steps in the field of nanotechnology and biofuels” having already established a manufacturing plant in Pune.
Mr Balvinder Singh Kalsi, CEO & President, DuPont India, said, “India's knowledge workers can contribute a lot to the development of these emerging fields.
Their skills can do a lot in addressing the food and energy needs. We must deploy our resources to create virtual acres.” He said DuPont will use its technological expertise to find solutions to India's demographic problems.
Mr Shiv Krishnan, Managing Director, Seale & Associates, said, “To address energy and clean water needs, industry and various institutions should work in tandem. They should work with R&D centres and educational institutions for inclusive growth.”
Biofuels are the only answer to mounting energy requirements and shrinking oil reserves. He also citing the example of the United States where private equity funds are investing in new sources of energy. He highlighted the need to focus more on renewable sources of energy and diversify into the application of nanotechnology.”
Vipul Tuli, Partner, McKinsey & Co, said, “Nonotechnology will have pervasive design impact in many sectors. India should gear up to capture opportunities emerging from mega trends such as Asia growth, climate change, new technology and industry consolidation.”
Mr Tejpreet Singh Chopra, President & CEO, GE India, said, “GE will use its technological knowhow to address the issues of energy and clean water. Technology is a great equalizer and can ease pressure. We should take partnership route to solve India's energy and water problems”.
Earlier, in his welcome remarks, Mr Alok Gupta, Chairman, CII National Committee on Chemicals & Managing Director, Cabot India Ltd, said, Biofuel can play a big role in inclusive growth. For sustainable growth we should focus on renewable energy, clean water, biofuel and nanotechnology. We should make efforts to benefit people at the bottom of the pyramid.”
