Re-exports to Mainland for outward processing slightly up

In value terms, $108.0 billion of Hong Kong's total exports to the Mainland in the third quarter of 2007 were for outward processing, representing a slight decrease of 1% over the third quarter of 2006.

The value of domestic exports to the Mainland for outward processing decreased significantly by 19% to $4.9 billion while the value of re-exports to the Mainland for outward processing increased slightly by 0.1% to $103.1 billion.

Over the same period of comparison, the value of imports from the Mainland related to outward processing fell by 8% to $191.7 billion. On the other hand, $225.6 billion of Hong Kong's re-exports of Mainland origin to other places were produced through outward processing in the Mainland, representing a slight increase of less than 0.05%.

In January-September of 2007, $332.3 billion of Hong Kong's total exports to the Mainland were for outward processing, representing an increase of 9% over the January-September of 2006.

The value of domestic exports to the Mainland for outward processing decreased significantly by 15% to $14.0 billion whereas that of re-exports to the Mainland for outward processing increased by 10% to $318.3 billion.

Over the same period of comparison, the value of imports from the Mainland related to outward processing increased by 3% to $579.1 billion. On the other hand, $610.4 billion of Hong Kong's re-exports of Mainland origin to other places were produced through outward processing in the Mainland, which represents an increase of 3%.
