Beverages, tobacco and other related products logged the highest growth of 26.7 per cent in July, followed by 24 per cent by other manufacturing industries and 21.4 per cent in textile products including wearing apparel.
The quick estimates of Index of Industrial Production and use-based index (Base 1993-94 =100) for the month of July 2005, by the Central Statistical Organisation, also revealed that metal products and parts except machinery and equipment showed a negative growth of 19.2 per cent, followed by a decline of 5 per cent in wood and wood products and furniture and fixtures and 3 per cent decline in wool, silk and man-made fibre textiles.
As per the use-based classification, the growth was 3.9 per cent in Basic goods, 13.9 in Capital goods and 2.9 per cent in Intermediate goods. The consumer durables and consumer non-durables, recorded a growth of 5.2 per cent and 13.1 per cent respectively, with the overall growth in consumer goods being 11 per cent, in comparison with the same month of last year.
As already stated, the growth of Industrial Production during July was 6.7 per cent, compared to the same month of the previous year. Along with the quick estimates for July, the indices for June 2005, have undergone the first revision, and those for April, the second and final revision, in the light of the updated data received from the Source Agencies. The revisions indicated no significant changes in the indices for April and June 2005. Asmany as 13 of the 17 two-digit industry groups, showed positive growth during the month compared to the same period of the previous year.
