The current growth rate of 6% of manufacturing sector is inadequate and therefore steps should be taken to improve the manufacturing capability to correct the distortion between the contributions of agriculture, manufacturing and services sector.
He urged that there is a need to reach out to a very vast number of SMEs to help them upgrade their technology and provide them with services at affordable cost. In 2003, the value of imports from China was Rs.9000 crore.
