Textiles Ministry contributes Rs 42.9mn for JBY insurance

The Union Textiles Minister, Shri Shankersinh Vaghela handed over the contribution of Rs. 4.29 crore towards Government's share of annual premium to Executive Director, LIC of India here on October 22, 2008.

The Ministry of Textiles will provide insurance coverage under the Janashree Bima Yojana (JBY) to about 8 lakh artisans who have been covered under the Rajiv Gandhi Shilpi Swasthaya Yojana during 2007-08.

The coverage under Janshree Bima Yojana will be available to these artisans across the country except 6 states of Mizorm, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Delhi, Jammu & Kashmir and Chhatisgarh.

LIC of India will provide insurance cover for one year beginning Ist November, 2008 for which the artisans will not have to contribute their share of the annual premium.
