Annisul Huq, the retiring president of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has insisted on a separate ministry for country's readymade garment sector. The demand was also considered as an election vow of the four-party alliance government.
Though, there are fifty ministries at present, no ministry is for RMG industry, which generates nearly 78 percent of foreign exchange, informed Haq to the press.
Annisul Huq will hand over his presidency of BGMEA to Tipu Munshi and later Tipu Munshi will hand over to Fazlul Huq as they divided the two-year term into three equal terms.
After a seven-day visit to USA to convince senators and congressmen of US parliament, Annisul Huq, said that 21 congressmen and senators gave response in support of the bill.
He requested the government to brace up itself for the coming WTO Ministerial conference in Hong Kong to facilitate "Trade Act 2005".
He expressed concern over the year 2008 when US would eliminate quota restrictions from China, and added that after 2008, RMG industry of Bangladesh might experience tough time.
Haq stated that Bangladesh has already lost market in European Union, as the WTO safeguard has not been imposed. Export of Bangladesh to EU declined a great deal.
