Exports of handicrafts recover substantially in fy11

Smt. Menon also explained that compliances on social and environmental matters will be useful for the Indian society and Indian Community besides International requirement. The Govt of India has already initiated scheme for health insurance of the artisans, craftsmen and workers connected with the production of handicrafts in the village, rural and urban sector. The scheme is being implemented through the O/o DC[ Handicrafts]. She urged that the exporters should advise their workers to avail this insurance scheme and exporters should also provide other measures for protection of environment and safety and environment etc.

Shri Rakesh Kumar, ED, Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts [ EPCH ] mentioned that EPCH with support of Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India has introduced various measures to develop awareness amongst producers and exporting community on the health, safety and protection of environment etc. EPCH has already brought out a Safety Manual for the guidance of the exporting community. This Manual explains in detail various statutory requirements, implications and compliance etc. EPCH is also holding seminars and workshops at various places for the benefits of exporting and producing community where experts deal in each aspects of health, safety and environment etc and guides the exporting community to take action accordingly. Information on social and environmental compliance is also being disseminated periodically through EPCH bulletins and circulars etc. The EPCH is also setting up testing facilities and laboratories at the production centres and clusters for quality, safety and environment control etc.
