On the sidelines of the road show to publicize the extended 'Scheme for Integrated Textile Parks' (SITPs) organised by the Union Ministry of Textiles in Ahmedabad on Friday, Mr AB Joshi, Textile Commissioner told fibre2fashion that there were still no new estimates available for cotton production in India in the new season.

He was not in a position to reveal any new estimates on cotton production as they are not available, nor did he comment on news that exporters may not be able to meet their commitment of exporting 5.5 million bales of cotton by December 15, the last date stipulated by the government or whether they would extend the deadline.

Instead, he replied by saying that everyone would have to wait for December 15 to know the exact status, after which, they could take any appropriate decision.
