US Census Bureau announced that October 2005 sales of merchant wholesalers, except manufacturers' sales branches and offices, after adjustment for seasonal variations and trading-day differences but not for price changes, were $314.9 billion, up 1.2 percent (+/-0.7 percent) from the revised September level and were up 10.7 percent (+/-1.2 percent) from the October 2004 level.
The September preliminary estimate was revised upward $0.1 billion. October sales of durable goods increased 1.9 percent (+/-1.0 percent) from last month and were up 9.0 percent (+/-1.7 percent) from a year ago.
Sales of apparel, piece goods, and notions increased 5.5 percent from last month, while sales of drugs and druggists' sundries decreased 1.6 percent.
Sales of metals and minerals, except petroleum increased 5.7 percent from last month and furniture and home furnishings were up 4.4 percent. October sales of nondurable goods increased 0.5 percent (+/-0.8 percent)* from last month and were up 12.5 percent (+/-1.5 percent) from last year.
