EEC Bangla Knitwear fire causes losses worth crores

Readymade apparels stored in EEC Bangla Knitwear factory worth about Taka two crore were destroyed in the fire that started in the early hours on Monday, at Panchobati BSCIC industrial estate under Fatullah thana.
The fire was caused by an electric short circuit in the meter room of the four-storied building.
Fire brigades from Dhaka, Hajiganj and Narayanganj could extinguish the fire only after a five-hour struggle.
Habibur Rahman, Vice President, BKMEA, also visited the spot.
Polash Barua, Managing Director of the factory reported that about 1,75,000 apparel pieces that were ready for export, five bales of cotton yarn, 15 sewing machines and gray cloths were all destroyed in the incident.
