The Wet Seal reports Jan same-store sales boosts 51.4%

The Wet Seal Inc, a leading specialty retailer to young women, has reported net sales for the four-week period ended January 28, 2006 of $30.2 million, compared with net sales of $22.2 million for the same period last year, an increase of 35.6 percent.
Same-store sales increased 51.4 percent for the four-week period ended January 28, 2006, compared with an increase of 8.2 percent for the same period a year ago.
Net sales for the 13-week period ended January 28, 2006 were $141.4 million, compared with net sales of $119.2 million for the same period last year, an 18.6 percent increase, while same-store sales increased 44.6 percent for the 13-week period ended January 28, 2006, compared with a decline of 11.4 percent for the same period a year ago.
Net sales for the 52-week period ended January 28, 2006 were $500.8 million, compared with net sales of $435.6 million for the same period last year, a 15.0 percent increase. Same-store sales increased 44.7 percent for the 52-week period ended January 28, 2006, compared with a decline of 13 percent for the same period a year ago.
Joel Waller, Chief Executive Officer of The Wet Seal Inc, said, "The month of January produced a strong comparable store sales increase for our company. We are particularly encouraged with the result as this was the first month in the year where we were up against a positive increase from the prior year."
For the period ended January 28, 2006, the company opened one Wet Seal store and closed two Wet Seal stores and one Arden B. store. It operates 308 Wet Seal stores and 92 Arden B. stores.
