S Ramadorai, Chief Executive Officer, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), declared that the company is to set up an Engineering Centre of Excellence at Coimbatore in March 2006.
Coimbatore was selected as the perfect location because of its numerous Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs) and is considered as advanced textile industry and industrial engineering base.
The Centre would cater to the technological requirements of the SMEs.
Ramadorai believes that SMEs are a very important part of the nation's economy and should be nurtured.
TCS plans to discuss and find innovative ways to tackle major weaknesses of SMEs such as limited access to market and technology, he added.
